Who we are

The NHS needs at least £20bn in emergency funding this winter and in the upcoming spring budget if it is to provide funds for urgent staff needs, to tackle the soaring bills for backlog maintenance and reopen almost 5,000 NHS beds that have not been used since the pandemic.

SOS NHS is a new coalition of campaign groups and trade unions which are demanding emergency funding for the NHS from the Government to support services and staff and not the private sector. So far our campaign is backed by Keep Our NHS Public, Health Campaigns Together, People’s Assembly Against Austerity, Unite the Union, GMB, We Own It, NHS Support Federation, NHS Workers Say No, NHS Staff Voices, Doctors in Unite, Doctors for the NHS and more.

Our Mission Statement

Our strategic objective is build the strongest alliance between unions, NHS campaigns, health and care staff, social movements and civil society organisations working in and for our communities, and to demand in the immediate term an emergency funding of £20bn for the NHS.

Our objective should be to reach out to the wider population, using our alliance members to extend the reach of our message and our demands for change. Short-term, we are seeking immediate change in support of the NHS and Care systems in the context of a right-wing government with a strong majority. That requires forcing a political U-turn. We doubt whether some MPs will subscribe to our demands but they are more likely to respond to the power of a mass campaign. If we are to put political pressure on MPs across the political spectrum who may be vulnerable to the strength of opinion of their constituents, the best way to do that is to build the strongest broad alliance. This is the real building we need to do

We believe the Government can’t afford not to help the NHS in its hour of need. If it can bail out the banks it can invest to save lives now.
